Green Infrastructure Assessment - GIA

The Council prepared and consulted upon a draft Green Infrastructure Plan (GIP) in 2011. An updated version of the Green Infrastructure Assessment (Section 2 of the GIP) has now been published and can be viewed on the Reports and Documents page where you can download the document as a PDF.

The objectives of the draft GIP include:

  • Safeguarding and enhancing biodiversity
  • Mitigating and adapting to climate change
  • Improving economic prosperity through sustainable development, green tourism and local food production
  • Promoting a low carbon society
  • Health and wellbeing through improved access to green infrastructure

Existing green infrastructure (GI) assets have been mapped at the district scale and by catchment areas made up of one or more parishes. Through this process, as action area for investment has been proposed, as well as policies to improve and enhance GI and influence the design of new development.
